Olympic Octobus

by Drowemos on August 13, 2012 at 3:37 am

I usually like to wait till Wednesday before posting another blog entry so that everyone sees the voting appeal but this deserves mentioning.  It seems that at the closing ceremonies of the olympic games they had an Octobus:

This is just weird.  The Octobus has gone from a quirky mash up to some sort of oddly prophetic vision of the future.   Granted a tentacle filled vision of the future but a vision of the future none the less.

There are so many questions here.  Does English school children take such a poor view of school that this seemed required? Did the Japanese delegation find this to be culturally offensive? Or at the very least, some what threatening?  Why?  Just why did this happen?

Thanks to Micheal for finding this.

And Zephyr… You’re beginning to freak me out a little bit.

Hey back again with your weekly reminder that we have a voting challenge up.  Blade Bunny Vs Tortoise Samurai wallpaper reward if we make our goal of 69 dudes.  A even if we don’t make it we get credit for next month.  All you have to do is vote

Vote for Blade Bunny

Awkward Spaceship

Now for something else you should be checking out.  I know I promised to get off of the videos and talk about webcomics again but this week I Awkward Spaceship released a video that just floored me and I just had to share.  What is Awkward Spaceship you ask?  Well it one of those Youtube channels buy this guy Dave Urlakis  where he tries to be funny.  The thing that really set it apart is that the Dave Urlakisis actually really funny.

The humor of Awkward Spaceship focus on geek culture around comic book, computers, and video games but yet again instead being the same old stuff you have seen over an over again Dave takes a unique spin on it all.  While its definelty sardonic humor it’s not mean spirited.  The bit revel in the culture instead of mocking it.

It’s worth some time to go through.

That can happen.

Yet again another post to remind you to vote for Blade Bunny on top web comics.  We are going to have a new challenge but as we are starting the month a little behind it’s going to be a rolling challenge.   If we make it this month great.  If not we will get a second chance on the in September with credit from August.   The reward will be a wallpaper of:

Blade Bunny races the Torturous Samurai

The goal for this month is of course:

69 dudes!

The goal for next month if we miss the target is going to be 69 plus however much we are over 75 this month (69+((Aug Total)-75)).

The booth at the end

So moving on to something kind of fun.  I have made a deal with you now lets talk about a man that makes deals.  Again normally I talk about webcomics but like last week I want to talk instead about a video series again.  This time the series in question is the Booth at the End.

What can I say about this show.  It is simply brilliant.  One of the limiting factors of webseires is the their budget.  You simply can’t compete with the a full television production for special effect and set.  The Booth at the End gets around all this by simply having everything happen in a diner booth.

The premise is simple.  Somewhere their is a diner with a man sitting in a booth.  You tell this man what you want.  The man gives you a task to complete.  You complete the task you get what you want.  Or you can choose to walk away from this Faustian deal.  Either way you will be changed after you met the man.

The show is a character study backed up with some very well nuanced performances by the actors.  The first season aired back in 2010 and is available to watch for free on hulu.  I bring it up because this week after 2 years in limbo the Booth at the End returns for a second season.  It is well worth you time to watch the first season and I hope the second season lives up to the standards of the first.  It’s not a perfect show mind you but it’s a cut above most of the things you’ll find online or on network tv.

So we did it Blade Bunny ends the month off with a rank of 67.  So here is the promised pinup of  Blade Bunny vs Darth Vader…

Sort of.  There seems to be have been a bit of a problem at the photoshoot.  I got this note from Bunny:

“Sorry guys, but the Dark Side is totally hot.”

When he heard that Bunny might be joining the Dark Side, Darth Vader had this to say:

Seriously, great job guys.  Any suggestions for this month’s challenge?

Well 2 more days to go on the Top Webcomics challenge. To remind of what this challenge is I said that if Blade Bunny ends the month on the 31st at a rank of 75 or above on Top Webcomics I would provide a free pinup of Bunny vs Darth Vader.  As of right now Blade Bunny is ranked 75…

You’re the type of people who defuse a boom when the counter reaches 1, aren’t you.

Well we are right on the edge the next few day are going to make all the diffrence so don’t forget to vote.

Space Janitors

Now normally at this point I talk about another webcomic that should be getting your attention.  But given the theme of this month was Bunny vs Vader I thought I would talk about something Starwars related.  Space Janitors is not a webcomic but a webshow set in a world that looks erry similar to a certain movie you may have seen a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Now I know we have seen a million parodies of Star Wars but this series is something different.  Let’s start with the technical aspect.  Space Janitors is not some kids playing around with their camcorder, this is a professionally produced show with special effect that are, while not top of the line, are pretty good for a free show on the internet.

The script of the show is truely above and beyond anything you have seen is a parody show.  It take the universe and makes it its own.  It’s not Star Wars but a universe based off the core concepts of Star Wars.  It also has a real Venture Brothers vibe in that it focuse on the the little guys in the planet destroying death cannon not the people on the command bridge.  The dialog is snappy and funny and anyone can get into it not just Star Wars fans.

And then there is the acting.  The acting on the show is phenomenal.  It is what really makes the show.  The actors sell the scenarios and the world.  These are people that deserve to be in major sitcoms and movies but they are slumming it here on the net with us.

All and all I highly recommend you check it out.  The conversation at the beginning of episode 7 is worth your time alone.

Space Janitors

and if you like that there is more Space Janitors Deck Crew episodes here:
